Client Introduction

As pet ownership reaches new heights, particularly following COVID-19, the demand for top-tier veterinary care has never been greater. Despite the crucial role pets play in enhancing our physical and mental health, many vet services still struggle to meet the high expectations of pet owners. modernvet is rising to meet this challenge, committed to delivering exceptional veterinary care that not only meets but exceeds standards, ensuring every interaction is remarkable.

The Challenge

Amidst the expansion of their state-of-the-art pet hospitals in Jakarta, modernvet sought to enhance their service offerings with a high-quality mobile app. This app needed to match the high standards of their facilities, providing pet owners with a seamless experience in managing their pet’s health, scheduling appointments, and handling payments.

Solution

Our collaboration with modernvet involved two key phases:

Initial Development

We constructed a robust MVP based on an app they had in mind, creating designs, that ensured the product embodied modernvet's vision. This foundation was built using Flutter and Node.js.

Feature Enhancement Design

In the second phase, we embarked on a design sprint to revamp key features and introduce a new user flow, incorporating a membership program based on a points system. This enabled rewards through paid bills, and enhancing user engagement through functionalities like multiple appointment scheduling and invoice payments.

Defining and Prioritizing Features

They already had a list of what they wanted to add, but our team carried out a thorough process consisting of organizing the client's Figma archive. Then we began a definition stage to "ground" and list the final features. The feature definition included the following steps:

1. Feature round-up: based on meeting notes, documents, and client specifications, the team built a definite set of features, specifying if they applied to members or non-members.

2. Feature clustering: the features were grouped, grounded, and prioritized according to their value. These creates initial UX groups and helps identify related tasks.

3. UI prioritization based on effort & value: Each feature is assessed for its technical effort, UX value, and business value.

This meticulous approach helped us craft a realistic development roadmap, aligning closely with strategic business goals and user needs.

This research also uncovered crucial UX insights. For instance, it revealed a significant gap: non-member users who required emergency appointments but couldn't access them. To address this, our team suggested a message encouraging these users to visit the center directly.

This solution ensures that during urgent situations, no user is left to handle the crisis alone. While it ended up not being implemented, such insights demonstrate the deep empathy designers bring to their work. Their attention to detail helps anticipate and resolve user scenarios that might otherwise lead to negative experiences.

Results

The refined app successfully met modernvet's high standards, translating their vision into a functional and user-friendly digital tool. Our prioritized, value-driven approach not only satisfied immediate needs but also set the stage for future enhancements, ensuring the app could evolve with the growing needs of pet owners and the veterinary industry. The app not only fit the client's design and user experience requirements but it also kept the interface simple, clean and modern - perfectly aligned with the aesthetic used across their clinics.

Conclusion

Clients often have a clear vision but need expert guidance to actualize it. Our team excels in translating complex ideas into actionable, user-centered digital solutions. Beyond simply executing development or design tasks, our team helps organize, supports, and understands the client.

"If (…) we're working on a big project that I feel like we need extra firepower, especially if we're erring on the side of what we don't really know what we want to be building, then I feel like for me Xmartlabs is the ultimate resource to tap into. And I keep Xmartlabs as a resource if it's a high-risk project, like a project that we absolutely need to get right, we engage Xmartlabs."
